Installed the latest FTDI driver for Win 8.1, couldn't connect with the destination device which was a Rotel T11 DAB+ radio (2016-now model). Have to go back to using the NEWlink Adapter - at least it actually works. Ironic that, in this particular ar case, the Prolific based NEWlink just works out-of-the-box whilst the better spec and more expensive FTDI based StarTech doesn't. I've concluded that it must be faulty and will have to be returned. It assigns a USB-Serial Port okay, and the label printer finds it alright, but it will not print labels out no matter what I try (including reducing the Baud rate ). However, despite spending considerable time I have been unable to get it to work (unlike my Prolific NEWlink) with my label printer. However, upon reading many of the good reviews here I decided to purchase the USB to Serial Adapter mainly for the COM Retention feature (not present on my NEWlink), but also because it uses the FTDI USB UART Chip - purportedly more stable amongst other things. I already have a Prolific based NEWlink USB Serial Adapter which works with my label printer. I purchased this USB to Serial RS232 Adapter to connect with my serial connected Seiko Smart Label Printer Pro (SLP2000). Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 10 September 2018 Presumably Faulty - will have to return it!
